There are two steps to getting your medical costs covered: the first step is visiting a primary care facility, and the second step involves treatment at an advanced general hospital like Seoul St. Mary's. You need to complete the first step before moving to the second. After your initial treatment, you should bring a health exam report or a referral letter (with a doctor’s note about needing further care at an advanced hospital) for your next visit.
If you don't follow these steps, you'll have to pay the full cost of your treatment, as outlined in the National Health Insurance Act.
- You can also bring a referral letter from another advanced hospital.
However, you can directly receive care at an advanced hospital in the following situations:
- In emergencies, as defined by the law.
- For childbirth or family medicine services.
- For dental care or if you’re receiving treatment for hemophilia.
- If you’re registered as disabled or need specialized rehab treatments like occupational or physiotherapy.
